Western Gailes is built on ground between the Irvine Bay and the railway line and is named after the westerly wind that dominated this area. This course has a somewhat quirky layout, the first four holes follow the railway away from the clubhouse, it then turns back and goes past it before yet again turning around and ending with an 18^th green in front of it. Three different Burns runs through this course, meandering their way up and down as well as in front of the greens on some holes. The greens here are hard and fast as well as surrounded by very deep bunkers, unless you are really good with a sand wedge we recommend you stay clear!
