Many miss Hillside when playing in the area which is a pity as it has some of the best holes in England!
This Par 72, 6849 yard long Open qualifying course is a real gem. Separated only by a path from Royal Birkdale, and by the railway line to Southport & Ainsdale GC, the back 9 are some of the best seaside holes in the country.
The front 9 are somewhat flatter, and less attractive, but nevertheless difficult in their own right. The first two holes are played along the Merseyside Railway, nothing quite like standing on the 2nd tee when the train goes past!
Like many seaside golf courses this is not one where you can just go to the tee and hit your driver, but careful planning is a must.
