We like Royal Aberdeen, not only for the challenging golf, but also for the warm welcome you receive from both staff and members!
Royal Aberdeen’s Balgowie Championship Course is one the most beautiful, and most difficult, seaside courses in Scotland. The strong wind from the North Sea, the undulating landscape and the small greens, many with vast amounts of bunkers around them, makes the first nine holes some of the best in the world.
On the third hole, a par 3 which is only 210 yards, you will find it difficult to reach the green with even a driver if the wind is facing you! However, if you end up with a bogey on the 3rd you can hopefully make one back on the 6th which is a shorter par 5 that is more protected in a valley. Watch your approach on the 8th hole as it has 9 bunkers surrounding the green! The final 9 are less windy and often comes as a bit of relief but there are a few tricky holes, in particular the 18th, a long par 4 which has out of bounds behind the green. You might find it easier to play it as a par 5.
