Sea views and some brilliant holes make this a fantastic irish golf course.
Doonbeg was opened in 2002 and was designed by Greg Norman. He used the existing sand dunes and routed the links course through the ragged terrain.
The result was a stunning, but very difficult, golf course so when Trump bought the course he hired Martin Hawtree to make it more playable. As often happens in these cases, opinion is split on whether it was better before or after, our view is that the course is better after the renovations, which took just under 2 years to complete.
Greens were moved, the routing improved upon, and a couple of holes were completely changed! Our favourite holes are 5, 6 and 14; the 5th because of its infinity green and the 6th because of the routing along the Atlantic coast and the 14th is a stunning Par 3 that is downhill towards the ocean.
