This James Braid course is really fun to play, even though it is difficult to avoid all the bunkers!
After the local council decided to build another road into Southport the club called upon James Braid in 1922 to help them relay the course and the end result is a masterpiece.
It has a very natural feel, although not a traditional 9 out and 9 back but a very endearing loop inside another loop. The first hole is a par 3, heavily guarded by 8 bunkers, very unlike the 8th hole which is also a par 3 but with no bunkers…The 16th is perhaps the most famous with its enormous sleeper bunker, avoid it at all cost or you might be there a while.
The railway divides the land, on the other side is Hillside Golf Club, and all of it is out of bounds. As there are several blind tee shots, as well as one or two blind approaches, we recommend that you purchase a course guide!
