Royal St. George isn’t an easy course to play but it is stunning. Hard to get a tee time so let us help you.
Royal St George, or Sandwich Golf Club as it’s also known, was established in the late 19th century by a Scotsman, Dr Purves, who wanted to create an exceptional links course. It quickly became famous, after only seven years it hosted The Open for the first time, and it was the first golf course outside of Scotland to do so.
It doesn’t have the traditional 9 out and 9 back, but rather a bit like Muirfield, two loose rings, a bit like a figure of eight. Royal St George is not an easy course, but it is stunning.
Very undulating fairways, one of the steepest bunkers in Europe, several blind holes and some very fast greens means that the scores are often high, but so is ones spirits after playing here!
It is notoriously difficult for visitors to play here, with Tuesday being the only day you can play as an individual, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursday visitors may play foursomes, and no visitors allowed at all on Fridays to Sundays. RSG held the 2021 Open Championship.
